In -development television show, The Fest Gurus has launched its online crowd-funding campaign via Go Fund Me.  By attending some of the continents best arts music and culture festivals, such as Harare International Festival of the Arts, City of Stars in Malawi and many more, The Fest Gurus explore and share Africa in a fresh and exciting way!

“Imagine watching your favorite African artists on stage performing alongside your favorite International Artists. Epic moments like that happen at festivals all across the continent! That’s some of what the Fest Gurus is about, showing you everything that goes into creating a memorable festival”.

The pilot episode of The Fest Guru’s  was shot in April- May during the Harare Festival of Arts Festival (HIFA) and comprises of segments like  #FestMusic which features interviews with performing  festival artists such as Tehn Diamond, The Monki Nuts and more. #FestStyle captures the best attendee street style, while #FestTips features advice on having an affordable, safe and fun festival experience.

The name ‘The Fest Guru’s’ comes from ‘Fest’ for ‘Festival’,‘ An often regularly recurring program of cultural performances, exhibitions, or competitions’ and ‘Guru’ is a Sanskrit term for “teacher” or “master”, especially in Indian religions.

‘The Fest Gurus’ comprises of a four member team. It is hosted by popular radio personality Lorraine-Charlotte Bgoya of ‘Off The Wall’ on ZiFM Stereo. Lorraine, also known as Lo, is of Tanzanian origin and was born and raised in Zimbabwe. She has interviewed major celebrities like Estelle , D-Banj , Eve & The Noisettes , has been featured on DSTV’S Africa Magic Entertainment show ‘Star Gist’ and is on the August 2013 cover of  Jewel,  the leading women’s lifestyle magazines in Zimbabwe.

Lorraine’s co-host is Mazuba Kapambwe; a radio correspondent for Australian based African inspired radio station Radio Afro. Mazuba, also known as Maz ,is from Zambia and  has interviewed Nollywood heart throb Van Vicker, former Channel O/Vuzu host NonhleThema, South Africa’s DJ Black Coffee, and has been featured on an episode of MTV Base Meets AlekWek. Lo and Maz are both passionate about the preservation and advancement of African art, music and culture, as they both have relevant degrees in Intellectual Property and Africana Studies respectively.

Zimbabwean Ngonidzashe Chinhara and Gwinyai Mabikaof Crafted Media bring their film-making and directing experience to make up the Fest Guru team. Their roles include shooting, executive producing and directing. They provide an intimate view of what goes on behind the scenes at a festival, from the minutes before an artist goes on the stage, to the actual performance and what happens after.

All four Fest Gurus are extremely passionate about the show and have self funded it so far. However, as with all shows of this nature they can’t do it alone! Through the Indiegogo campaign, The Fest Gurus hope to be able raise money for travel and accommodation costs for them to be able to shoot an episode in Lilongwe, Malawi during the City of Stars Festival which runs from September 27-29, 2013.

In exchange for various funding levels, donors receive perks like signed t-shirts, festival inspired mix-tapes, e-books and mention in the shows credits!
